How To Set Up A Chess Board

Step 1: Make sure the square in the bottom right corner is a light square

The most important thing to remember is to place the board such that there is a light square on the bottom right corner of the board.

If you forget this, the positions of the King’s and Queen’s will be swapped when you start playing.

Step 2: Put the pawns on the board

The next step is to place the pawns on the board.

All white pawns should go on the 2nd row from the bottom, and all black pawns should go on the 2nd row from the top.

Step 3: Place the rooks (castles) on the board

The next step is to place the rooks (castles) on the board.

White rooks go in the corners behind the White pawns, while Black rooks go in the corners behind the Black pawns.

Step 4: Place Knights (Horses) on the board

The next step is to place the knights (horses) on the board.

You place the white knights next to the white rooks and the black knights next to the black rooks.

Step 5: Place bishops on the board

The next step is to place the bishops on the board.

You place the white bishops next to the white knights and the black bishops next to the black knights.

Step 6: Putting the Queens on the board

The next step is to place the Queens on the board.

Queen’s should go on their own color.

Place the white queen on the light square, and the black queen on the dark square.

Step 7: Place your king on the last square

The next step is placing the Kings on the board.

In the remaining squares, place the Kings.

Step 8: White moves first :)

Now you are ready to play!

Just remember that White moves first :)
